NYC & Northern NJ Hoarding Cleanup

You don't have
to face this alone.

Cleaning out a home — or apartment — with hoarding accumulation is one of the hardest situations a family can face. You're dealing with emotional complexity, physical overwhelm, and often grief. We've handled hundreds of situations across New York City, Long Island, Westchester, and Northern New Jersey — and we know exactly how to approach each one with discretion, efficiency, and genuine care.

Our Process

Five steps. No surprises.

We walk you through every stage before any work begins. You know what to expect, what it costs, and what happens next — at every step.

We can be there the same day in most cases — and steps 3–5 almost always happen on the same visit.

1

Initial Call

Tell us about the situation. We'll ask a few questions and give you a verbal estimate right on the call — so you're not going in blind before anyone visits the property.

2

Secure Your Slot

We confirm a time and collect a small deposit (20% of your verbal estimate) to secure your slot. It covers our overhead and ensures we have the right team and equipment allocated for your situation. The deposit is credited toward your final invoice when work begins — and is refunded if the final price after the walkthrough comes in higher than expected and you choose not to proceed.

3

On-Site Walkthrough — Free

A trained EC team member visits at no charge. We assess the full scope: environmental factors, volume of materials, access — including elevator buildings, co-op board requirements, or HOA restrictions — and any special handling needs. We take photos and document everything so there are no gaps in our understanding.

4

Confirm Scope & Flat-Rate Price

We walk you through our findings and deliver one locked-in price. No pressure — you decide when you're ready. What we quote is what you pay. Period.

5

We Get to Work

Price doesn't change. In many cases we can start the same day. Our crew works until the job is done right — responsibly removing materials, handling any biohazard safely, and leaving the property in a condition you can move forward from.

What We Handle

We're equipped for the full scope.

Every hoarding situation is different. Here's what's typically included in an EC cleanup — and what separates a trained professional response from a general cleaning crew.

🧹

Full Clearance of Accumulated Materials

Responsible removal of items throughout the property — sorted where possible for donation, recycling, or proper disposal. We handle volume no general cleaner will touch.

🦺

Biohazard & Contamination Handling

Animal waste, mold, sewage exposure, pest activity — our team is trained and equipped for situations that require certified protocols, not just rubber gloves.

🏠

Room-by-Room Restoration

We work through every room systematically — kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, garages — until the property is functional again. No cherry-picking the easy parts.

📋

Documentation & Photo Record

We document conditions before, during, and after — useful for family members, property owners, estate attorneys, or social service agencies involved in the situation.

🤝

Discreet, Judgment-Free Service

Unmarked vehicles available on request. Our team works without drawing attention. We understand the sensitivity of these situations — and in a dense metro environment, that discretion matters even more.

🏢

High-Rise & Apartment Access

NYC and Northern NJ present unique logistics: elevator-only buildings, co-op board notification requirements, HOA move-out rules, and narrow stairwells. We've navigated all of it. We coordinate directly with building management when needed — so you don't have to.

Understanding Scope

Every situation is different.
Here's how we assess yours.

We use a 1–5 scope scale to understand what a property requires — not to assign a price tier. Two apartments on the same floor of the same building can be completely different projects. The walkthrough is how we get the full picture. Call us and we'll give you a verbal estimate before anyone visits.

Level Description Typical Characteristics
1 Moderate accumulation Pathways clear, no biohazard, minimal odor — manageable scope
2 Heavy clutter, multiple rooms Noticeable odor, higher volume of materials to remove
3 Significant accumulation Possible pest activity, strong odor, multi-day project
4 Severe — biohazard or structural hazards Active infestation, mold, certified technicians required
5 Extreme — full remediation Hazmat protocols, uninhabitable property, full response team

Note: These are scope descriptors, not price tiers. Pricing is always based on your specific situation — assessed in person, quoted flat, and locked before work begins.

From NYC & NJ Clients

What people say after we're done.

★★★★★

"My mother's apartment in Queens had been accumulating for twenty years. I live in Connecticut and didn't know where to begin — I was afraid of what I'd find. The EC team was compassionate, thorough, and completely professional. They handled the building management coordination themselves. I didn't have to deal with any of it."

★★★★★

"We had to coordinate the cleanout of my father's home in Westchester as part of an estate settlement. EC walked us through every step, gave us a firm price before they touched anything, and stuck to it exactly. No surprises on the invoice. For an estate situation, that predictability was everything."

Caroline M.

★★★★★

"I manage a portfolio of rental properties in Bergen County and had a severe tenant situation — years of accumulation, biohazard material, the works. EC assessed it the same day I called, gave me a flat quote, and had the unit cleared in two days. Professional operation, start to finish."

FAQ

Straight answers.

Can you handle cleanouts in NYC apartment buildings with elevator-only access or co-op board rules?

Yes — this is one of the most common situations we handle in the NYC metro. We coordinate directly with building management, schedule elevator reservations, comply with co-op or condo board move-out procedures, and work within building hours when required. We've done this in Manhattan doorman buildings, pre-war Brooklyn apartments, and NJ high-rises. Let us know the building type on the initial call and we'll plan accordingly.

Is the on-site walkthrough really free?

Yes, completely. We don't charge for travel, time, or the walkthrough itself. You get a full assessment and a flat-rate quote at no cost. To secure your calendar slot before the walkthrough, we collect a small deposit after your initial call — it's credited in full toward your final invoice when work begins.

What's the deposit policy if I decide not to move forward?

A small deposit (20% of your verbal estimate) is collected when you schedule your walkthrough. The deposit is refunded if the final price after the walkthrough comes in higher than the range we discussed and you choose not to proceed. It is non-refundable if you cancel before we arrive, or if the final price falls within the quoted range and you decide not to proceed — it covers the resources we allocated for your project. Refunds take 5–7 business days and are returned to your card.

How is the price determined?

We don't bill by the hour and we don't publish a price menu — because every situation is genuinely different. Pricing is based on five factors: environmental risk, disposal and hauling volume, distance and access (including building logistics unique to NYC), labor and scope, and supplies and equipment. We scope your project in person, then give you one flat rate that doesn't change.

Is this confidential? Will building neighbors know what's happening?

We understand this is a serious concern in dense urban environments. Unmarked vehicles are available on request. Our crew works professionally and without drawing attention — we look like any other service team in the building. What happens at the property stays between you and us.

Do I have to be present during the cleanup?

Not necessarily. Many clients — especially those coordinating from out of state for a family member — prefer not to be on-site. We'll coordinate building access, keep you updated throughout, and walk you through the finished space when we're done.

How long does a hoarding cleanup take?

It depends on the scope. A Level 1 or 2 situation may be completed in a day. Levels 3–5 are typically multi-day projects. In NYC, building logistics (elevator windows, freight access hours) can add scheduling variables — we factor those in during the assessment and give you an honest timeline.

Can someone else arrange this for a family member?

Yes. Family members, estate executors, social workers, property managers, and attorneys arrange cleanups on behalf of others regularly. Call us and we'll walk through the situation together.

What happens to the items you remove?

We sort where possible — items that can be donated go to donation, recyclables are handled responsibly, and what can't be reused is disposed of through proper channels. We document the process and handle everything with respect for the property and the people involved.

Your free assessment is one call away.

No pressure. No commitment. Just an honest conversation about your situation and what it will actually take to resolve it.
